A is for Animal

Happy 2015!   Let’s see what we can create this year.    If I do this every day, it’ll be a minor miracle, but I’m gonna give it my best shot.  I’ve decided to draw or paint the alphabet this year.    This should get me out of my comfort zone a bit. Starting with A is for….aardvark?  No.  Apple?   Too cliche.   And I just drew an apple the other day.    A is for animal!   I have one.  I’ll draw Penny.    The challenge with drawing a pet is you’re living on borrowed time the whole time.   You never know when she’ll suddenly decide to give herself a bath or roll over or shun you completely by turning her backside to you.  So, I did my best. Penny lying in the sunPenny, take two From life, about fifteen minutes apiece in my old Mead sketch pad with a 2H prismacolor graphite pencil. And just because I sketched this after my shower in my little 3×5″ sketchbook….thought I’d include it, as well. That woman in the mirror This was done with a Polychromos colored pencil.   The color is pompeian red.   Polychromos colored pencils are a joy.   They are like writing with hard butter.   It’s actually a sensual experience, with the smell of the pencil and the feel of it on the paper.   They make everything you do look better, just because they are so divine.  ❤

I'd love to hear from you! Constructive criticism is most appreciated. Thank you!
