B is for Bird….in Flight

I really enjoy drawing birds. My hub built a windowsill bird feeder for the kitchen window that only allows small birds in, such as titmice, chickadees, wrens and smaller woodpeckers. If we kept the feeder full, they’d probably go through several cups of peanuts a day. So he doles out a cup and a half or so in the morning and they’re served on a first come, first served basis!

Look out for a songbird in tomorrow’s post.    Tonight, I’ve started working on my art quilt, featuring seagulls.   So I’ve sketched a few from photos taken in Kitty Hawk, NC last October.   This one is my favorite so far.    image

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have a chance to work with the fabric and start putting the quilt together.    This sketch was done with Derwent watercolor pencils.    I’ll liquefy it tomorrow and decide if the bird(s) in my first little quilt will be painted with watercolor, watercolor pencil, or colored pencil.

Happy Purple Friday, everyone! We’re burning purple bulbs in our Christmas candles as long as the Ravens are in the playoffs. We play the Steelers in Pittsburgh tomorrow night in the first round.

Here is the photo I was sketching tonight: image
