I Have A Dream…Do You?

Dr. King had a dream, and what a dream it was.   I had lots of time to think about him and his dream while drawing his portrait today.

What are you willing to do to make your dreams reality?   What are you willing to sacrifice?   How important is it to you, really?   These are a few of the things I mulled over today while poring over this man’s face.

I say this every year around this time, but I think this will finally be the year that I read a biography about Martin Luther King, or else his autobiography.   There are so many good ones out there.   When I do, I’ll write a review here.

Dr. King, I think we still have a ways to go.   Are we closer now than we were ten years ago?   Perhaps.   I’d like to think we are.   But we still have some miles to walk.    Thanks for taking some big steps forward, for moving us closer.

    1. Thanks, Charles. I was ultimately unhappy with it, although I thought it started well but I learned from the experience, and I hope to draw him better next year. Maybe a full-on shot, I think it’s harder to do the 3/4 view, but I liked the opportunities for shading (and then ultimately ran out of time to get the shading right as it was almost midnight last night when I finished!). Let me ask you though: What would you improve about this piece if someone gave it to you to fix? I’d be curious how you see it.

I'd love to hear from you! Constructive criticism is most appreciated. Thank you!
