W is for Wildflower in Watercolor

I saw a blog post the other day that showed how to paint a flower with negative painting techniques.  (I wish I could remember where.  If I do, I’ll post the link later and credit the artist.)  Her painting was much more intricate and beautiful than mine, as she layered later with a different color family from the one she started out with.  I would love to find her post and paint this the way she instructed next time and see what I get.  (It’s on a watercolor card; sorry for the wonky photos (as always!)…)

But in the meantime, I’m really enjoying this one.  This became one of those projects you do when it’s late-ish at night, you should be asleep, but ‘oh, it’ll only take a minute’ to do a quick, fun layer and see what it looks like in the morning.  It turned into several layers over several days, and I’m really pleased with the results.  I love pink, orange and yellow together!  I’d also like to do a proper negative painting at some point, as I’ve seen them done so incredibly intricately and beautifully.

Happy Saturday!  I’m celebrating the weekend, regardless of the arctic blast.  Time to create!  See you tomorrow.

        1. Absolutely! I love when she gets so excited about shaking her board. It’s become an expression in my house when I’m getting ready to paint. I tell hub I’m gonna go “shake my board” (in a bad British accent). 😀 I’m glad you tried it!!! I will email you that painting, I promise.

I'd love to hear from you! Constructive criticism is most appreciated. Thank you!
