Zen is watercolor and watercolor is zen. Grabbed a few quick minutes last night to do this after Hub cut me some flowers and brought them in. He gardens; I don’t, but I think he really loves it when I draw in my breath at something he brought in and immediately talk about mixing colors, hehe.
This was done in my journal, not on watercolor paper, and I know the perspective of the vase is way off. But flowers aren’t as hard as they used to be, and I do enjoy drawing and painting them. Obviously, the goal is progress, not perfection, to quote a fellow blogging friend (thanks, Tom).
Happy Father’s Day! π Enjoy the day, dads! Maybe I’ll post pictures of our gluten free crabcakes tomorrow. Never made them before, but I’ve got my fingers crossed! And I’ll definitely share the recipe, if they turn out. π
Look at you rocking the flowers now! Woohoo!! Beautiful. And possibly becoming a kitchinesta too. Hope the crab cakes turn out good and you share the recipe !

You really captured the flowers! Perspective, like we’ve discussed before, is hard, but you’re practicing so it’ll be perfect soon.
Yum! I love crab cakes. I miss the east coast for that. Hubby makes them sometimes and he uses a lot of veggies from the garden in them. He’s also the gardener in our household, but he only grows veggies. We do have perennials like purple cone flowers, but he grows so many veggies he doesn’t want to spend time on flowers. π

Thanks, Teresa. It’d be useful to draw this case again and again just to try and get that perspective, at least for flower in vase type paintings. I hope the crabby gods will be with me today. π

Flowers really working well here. The vase looks difficult – awkward shape and tough perspective!

Thanks. It was tough! Love the vase but I need to practice purely sketching it, I think. I’m glad you like this!

Your flower sketch is great and I liked seeing it before and after you added color. So nice of your husband to bring in flowers for you to draw and paint. I like the way you drew the vase. It gives your sketch added interest.

love the pink coneflower! and, if I may say so….. the vase has such a wonderful sense of character and quirk to it, that I love it. its twisty and moving, not stiff and static. Great! This is something that can be “learned out” of us. You want to retain your unique fresh approach to creating things. Not be stifled by THE RULES and by what you are Supposed to do. guidelines are helpful, but not at the expense of the artist’s soul. just my opinion π debi
