Not sure if these qualify as gesture drawings of shells. I’m sure one of you will let me know. But this sure was a whole lot more fun in ink than the other drawing I’ve done of this shell in colored pencil. That one took forever, and these were quick.

I may go back and add color to them. That would liven them up a bit. I could swipe Kerfe’s idea and do them in orange and blue. What do you think?

Happy Sunday! Enjoy it, wherever you may roam today.

  1. Alternatively, you could colour the background quite dark and leave the shells monochrome so they are thrown forwards? Just a thought… look forward to seeing how it develops, whatever option you choose. Enjoy!

  2. Gorgeous Girlfriend! I love them simply drawn but then again can’t wait to see what you do with them in color. How about orange and purple and go really crazy 😝

  3. These may not technically be “life gesture” drawings, because shells are not alive πŸ˜‰ but they are wonderful gestural drawings nonetheless. A talented artist, Suzanne Cabrera (of An Open Sketchbook…you can google that and will see where her blog is) recommended The Natural Way to Draw book by Nicolaides to learn how to do gestural drawings. You might want to check that out!

  4. I like these! and I remember your original sketch which I also liked.
I’m finding ink drawing to be quick and fun too, less intense than colored pencil.
Now you’ve inspired me to post the rest of my shell drawings.

I'd love to hear from you! Constructive criticism is most appreciated. Thank you!
