Blue Kitty

Abstract realism is feeling more and more like my little “place in the sun”, my home, in the world of arty goodness.

I sketched Penny the other night in my art journal in colored pencil, and decided to go back in with my Cotman travel palette and splash some paint around.    I thought you might enjoy this article from The Washington Post about how making art is the new meditation.    It certainly resonated with me!

  1. Very interesting article. I know that I enjoy painting most when I’m “in the zone”. Everything else fades away and there’s only the paper and paint. This doesn’t happen as often as I’d like though! 🙂

    1. Even in meditation, that doesn’t happen as often as I’d like – in fact, it hardly ever happens for me (and I practice daily), but with art, I think it’s much easier to slip into that meditative state! Oddly enough. With abstract, even easier. Have you ever worked abstract Nicola?

        1. Do you really think so, Charlie? You’re not saying it just to be kind? Because I’d really like to do more of this kind of work. I’ve already done a few abstract sketches of Penny these last couple of days….it’s helping my from a therapeutic standpoint, but I’m really enjoying the expression, too. I’d love to do more of them.

          1. I’m very kind, and also have this complete inability to say anything I don’t actually believe! 😉hehe…so…Uhm YES!! I really really think so! Besides…a little “birdie” told me you’re awesome at drawing animals (several beautifully drawn birds actually…and a cute little snail said so too if I recall…😉)

  2. Your blue kitty tugs at my heart strings, Laura! It is a very touching painting. And neck hugs are the best! 💙 I enjoyed the article you shared – and I agree that art can be very meditative. When I’m in a creative zone, I loose all track of time. Love it when this happens! Sending you a furry hug from Jack! 🐱💖

I'd love to hear from you! Constructive criticism is most appreciated. Thank you!
