Dogwood, anyone?

I promised myself by the end of autumn, I’d improve my trees! Let’s see if it happens.   Sketched our little dogwood tree in pen and then went back with the Cotman travel watercolor palette, then added a bit of watercolor pencil and Neocolor II water soluble pastels for a bit more definition in my Strathmore mixed media journal.   (Love that thing!).

Lots of improvement to make, for sure, but trees are a worthwhile subject.   🙂 Happy Wednesday to all my talented blogging friends. Peace and all the colors of autumn (and spring) to you and yours today.

Tree Practice

…I need more practice. But I promised myself better trees/leaves by fall’s end, so … I do find I enjoy painting both leaves and trees, so it’s all good!   Neocolors and Cotman travel palette and a very looooong football game assisted in this artwork.

Probably best to paint in the sky before the tree is painted.   Although this one kinda looks like a tree in the rain, which all of the trees are at this point, so.   Onward!

I hope you take some time to savor the smells of fall today.   Cinnamon alone is just….it really is enough.   But add nutmeg and a Granny Smith apple and do you really need another thing?   Exactly.   Peace.

Abstract Fall Landscape

….from the Queen of Autumn *she says, as leaves swirl around*

0927I was playing with some new Neocolor II water-soluble crayons and my Cotman travel watercolor palette and conjured up this little scene, which brought some peace at the end of a looooong day.   Refreshing!   That’s what art is for me.    And oddly, doing a painting like this before bed can even help my sleep.   Weird, huh?

I hope you have a wonderful, crisp, colorful and creative Sunday.   Peace.

Day 8: Leaves a-plenty! (30 Day Leaf Challenge)

I’ve always loved fall, but I think this one is even more cool now that I’m focused on making leaf art just about every day. 🙂

0924

The top one I drew, then painted, but the bottom leaf I traced, then painted. It was curling a lot and I decided to hold it down and trace it. I do enjoy drawing though, so I probably won’t do that again. It was cool to try, though.   Both in my art journal with my Cotman palette.

Warming up for the Friday Fall Festival of Frankfurters? hehe. Nothing better. Peace.

Happy Autumn! Welcome to Day Seven of the 30 Day Leaf Challenge

HAPPY AUTUMN to my northern hemisphere friends! Let the crisp air, mulled cider and weenie roasts begin! Surprise, I painted a leaf to celebrate lol. 😀

0923

I’m really enjoying this series, and I hope you all are too. Brought to you today by my Strathmore mixed media art journal and my good ol’ faithful Cotman travel palette.   When Hub and I took our little leaf hunt Monday night, we were ready to turn back when he spotted a little bright red one in the middle of the road….and poof!   The rest is history.

Happy Wednesday to one and all – it’s all downhill from here!   Peace.

Day 4: 30 Day Leaf Challenge

I did find a few brightly colored leaves in the yard, even though the trees are mostly green. They crisp (and curl) up pretty quickly once you bring them in. 🙂

0920

I’m finding the vibrant yellows and reds a bit harder to translate to watercolor paint…..maybe if I used my full (Graham) palette, vs. the Cotman travel palette, I’d have better luck. But since I paint these at night in my lap while watching TV, the travel palette is much more convenient!

I hope you have time to enjoy the crisp air and some of the joys of (almost!) fall this Sunday. Peace.

Day 3: Don’t Leaf yet, I just got started!

lol…..oh, it’s been a long day hehe

Here is Day 3 of BB’s 30 Day Leaf Challenge. I hope to find more interesting leaves for the future, with more cool colors as fall blooms before our eyes.

0918Neocolor II + ink on top and Cotman travel watercolor palette + ink below.   I’m going to try and find some reddish or yellowish leaves……not really seeing any yet.   I probably need to open my eyes more.   We could all notice the things in front of us a little more.    Art is a wonderful blessing that way.   I hope to roll out a small art quilt for you this weekend.   It’s coming together!

Peace and piles of leaves to jump in to you!   And Happy Friday!   😀
